Open Badges are an exciting development in the way learning and skills can now be recognised.
Open Badges are digital records of learning and achievements that are tied to assessment and evidence. Unlike paper certificates, Open Badges are manageable online.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) are both actively exploring how best to implement Open Badges as a means to give learners and institutions the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and accomplishments.
To help tell people about the difference they can make, the SSSC has made this short YouTube video to explain badges and how they work.
If you don't have access to YouTube, you can view or download the video directly from the SSSC website.

ScOPTbox can issue badges for participation, contributing, sharing - and within the Practice Educator spaces, for recognising skills and achievements which count towards job opportunities, lifelong learning and PRTL.
The SSSC also have a range of badges available - take a look at the list of Open Badges currently on offer and apply if you meet the evidence requirements.
